Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Flower Mound, TX

Ask Your Flower Mound Pediatric Dentist

As you can imagine, we get questions from parents and children all the time, and that’s great! We love satisfying curious minds and empowering our patients with knowledge that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. You can give us a call to ask a question any time, and below, you’ll find our responses to some of the most common ones we hear every day.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

On average, every child should receive at least two checkups and cleanings each year, as these services allow our team to catch small problems before they become serious, plus they enable us to remove cavity-causing plaque and tartar from hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.

When should my child have their first dental appointment?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child should have their first dental appointment scheduled around their first birthday. This might seem early, but it gives our team a chance to examine a child’s developing teeth and jaw to make sure that their smile is starting on the right foot.

When should my child get orthodontics?

We offer two distinct phases of orthodontic treatment. Early Orthodontics, a.k.a. Phase 1, is typically started between 6-9 years old, and it’s used to fix bite problems and stop habits like thumb/finger sucking that can lead to crooked teeth in the future. Then, if necessary around 12 years old, we can use braces to fix crowded and gapped teeth as well as a misaligned bite. This two-step approach can actually shorten a child’s overall treatment time and help them avoid many issues in the first place.

Do you accept special needs children?

Yes, every child is welcome in our pediatric dental office, and we have the experience necessary to help those with behavioral, sensory, or physical special needs. We can use sedation to calm any nerves and will adapt our approach based on each child’s situation. Just give us a call ahead of their appointment so we can prepare properly!

Will you take my dental insurance?

Most likely yes! We accept PPO dental insurance plans, and you can give us a call to learn how your child’s care will be covered at their next appointment. We’ll even give you a rough estimate of how much you’ll be expected to pay out-of-pocket (if anything).

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes. Parents who pay for their child’s care in cash will receive up to a generous discount off of our standard fees. Payment plans are also an option for parents who are concerned about affordability.
